Crackin’ Out the Crackling at Hog Roast Windsor
As a hog roast caterer our namesake dish of course takes all of the limelight when it comes to your events, but here at Hog Roast Windsor we would like to show a moment of special appreciation to one of the undersung aspects of the hog roast: the crackling.
As part of our hog roast menus we almost always have a good helping of golden, bubbling crackling available too. This is the accompaniment for those that like a little bit of extra crunch, a little bit of extra salty goodness with their roast. It’s perfect just for snacking on, for adding to your hog roast roll, or for scooping up into your plate along with your roast, your apple sauce, roast potatoes and veg.
Crackling is a dish that has been favoured in Britain for centuries. It comes as byproduct of fattier meats like pork and goose as the process of crackling comes from the fat that spills from the meat during roasting and renders into a solid, bubbling and crispy delicious snack. As we of course work with pork all the time and roast for such long hours, we usually get a really good helping of crackling out of each of our pigs which we take good care to additionally season and allow to go golden and bubbly for added flavour and texture. There is little reason to waste the fat of the pork when it can still produce something so delicious, and we don’t like to be wasteful here at Hog Roast Windsor, so we always leave it as an option for our customers. For many, the crackling – or “scratchings” – are their favourite part of the entire menu, and for good reason too!
Just this past week we had a customer tell us in their feedback for their event that the crackling was actually their favourite part of the entire meal – with words to the effect of being “to die for!” to describe just how good the crackling was. It’s always a good time when Hog Roast Windsor cracks out the pork crackling, as you can see!
